Former local school teacher indicted on sexual abuse of victim under 12

A former teacher that worked in the Bardstown City Schools system and local parochial schools was indicted Wednesday by a Nelson County Grand Jury on a sexual abuse charge.
Charles L. “Buddy” Dickerson, 73, of Bardstown, was indicted Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, on one charge of first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 years of age.
According to the indictment, on Aug. 6, 2016, Dickerson allegedly subjected a minor under 12 years of age to sexual contact. Bail was set at $5,000 cash only, plus conditions.
The charge is a Class C felony punishable by up five to 10 years in prison.
Dickerson will be arraigned Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, in Nelson Circuit Court.
From 2000 to 2014, Dickerson was a substitute teacher with Bardstown City Schools. He was a religion teacher at Bethlehem High School from 1973 to 1995, and served as vice principal between 1978 and 1992. From 1966-68, he was a teacher at St. Joseph School.
