Obituary: Joseph Kenneth “Bishop” Mattingly, 78, New Hope

JOSEPH KENNETH “BISHOP” MATTINGLY

Joseph Kenneth “Bishop” Mattingly, 78, of New Hope, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at his residence. He was born June 5, 1938, in New Hope. He was a farmer and a retired employee of Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown. He was an outdoorsman whose life revolved around his grandkids and his dog, “Tiny.” He was instrumental in the establishment of the New Hope Ballpark and Food Bank. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Mary Alethia Nevitt Mattingly; and one infant brother, John Leroy Mattingly.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Juanita Bell Mattingly; one daughter, Diane Donnelly (Billy) of New Hope; one son, Ken Mattingly of Georgetown; one sister, Jean Lois O’Bryan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Joe Bradley Donnelly, Aaron Donnelly, and Stephanie Donnelly all of New Hope and Chad Donnelly of Palm Coast, Fla.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope, with the Rev. Ken Fortener officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is noon-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service with Deacon Jim Cecil.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of the arrangements.
