Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 — The Nelson County Democratic Woman’s Club is sponsoring a Democrats United Rally, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at American Legion Post 121, West Broadway in Bardstown.
Everyone is welcome to come out and meet Democratic and non-partisan candidates for office.
The rally will feature music by Cherrywood Drive, along with free refreshments and a cash bar.
The main speakers at the rally include Jim DeWeese, Democratic candidate for 50th District state representative, and former state auditor Adam Edelen and sports radio show host Matt Jones.
Edelen and Jones are the driving force behind the New Kentucky Project, which has been called a 120-county organization focused on reinvigorating the state’s Democratic Party. The organization will help create new ideas and new leaders, and support those who wish to get involved in politics in an effort to make their communities better.
“Our thought is we need to upset the apple cart, we need to go bottom-up rather than top-down,” Edelen said of the project.
Edelen and Jones recently appeared on KET’s “One to One” to talk about the New Kentucky Project, and what they hope it can achieve in the commonwealth.
“This organization will be future-focused,” Edelen said in an interview. “It is a way to come up with ideas relevant to the lives of people. It will be an idea factory and an identifier of new talent who are drawn to these new ideas.”
Erik Jarboe is the executive director of the New Kentucky Project.
The public is welcome to attend the event.
