Obituary: Walter Hannig, 96, Bardstown

WALTER HANNIG

Walter Hannig, 96, of Bardstown, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at Windsor Gardens of Bardstown. He was born Aug. 4, 1920 in Faulbruck, Germany. He was a World War II veteran who immigrated from Germany to Cleveland with his wife Elizabeth in 1951. He worked for American Greetings Corporation for 36 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America Kentucky Home Chapter, and a member of the Bardstown Optimist Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Konrad Hannig; his parents, Alfred and Martha Hannig; and two brothers, Herbert Hannig and Heinz Hannig.

He is survived by one daughter, Rita (Tim) Carter of Bardstown; one son, Kurt (Kim) Hannig of Chesterfield, Ohio; three granddaughters, Kari (Matt) Golias of Los Angeles, Anne Hannig of Naples, Fla., and Lynn (Matt) Krystofik of Ann Arbor, Mich.

The funeral is noon Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. John Sanderson officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 10:30 a.m. – noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are requested to go to the First Presbyterian Church, 209 North Second St., Bardstown, KY 40004

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
