Obituary: Edwin ‘Ed’ Ray Phelps 68, Mount Washington

Edwin “Ed” Ray Phelps 68, of Mount Washington, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Baptist Health Hospital. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of Boston Christian Church. He was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a former football coach for Valley Sports funeral_candleYouth League, Valley High School, North Bullitt, Fairdale, Moore and Western high schools. He also coached softball at Thomas Nelson High School, Fairdale, North Bullitt, Bullitt East, Spencer County high schools and coached basketball at Fairdale High School.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Barrett and Marie Phelps; and one brother, Bobby Phelps.

His is survived by his wife, Joyce Phelps; eight children, Kathy Gettings of Bardstown, Helen Murphy (Tommy) and Jason Blanton, both of Louisville, Cammie Roth and Susan Martin (Bobby), both of Nicholasville, Jinny White and Steve Boone, both of McCreary County, Danny Boone of Florida, and Mike Blanton of Mount Washington; seven siblings, Kenneth Phelps (Debbie) of Boston, Ronny Phelps (Patty) of Shepherdsville, Paul Carter (Renee) of Laconia, Ind., Barry Phelps (Sheila) and Steve Phelps (Allison), both of Louisville, and Ruthie Wheat and Rita Hughes, both of Florida; one sister-in-law, Joyce Lee Phelps of Munfordville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at the Maraman-Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville with Kenneth Phelps officiating. Burial is in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff.

Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, and 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Maraman-Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville is in charge of the arrangements.
