Police seek help to ID owner of horse killed in Highgrove Road crash

Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, 12:10 p.m. — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help identifying the owner of a horse that was struck and killed Tuesday evening at about 11:50 p.m. in the area of 7885 Highgrove Road.

The sheriff’s office is asking the public’s help in locating the owner or owners of this horse that was killed in an accident Tuesday night on Highgrove road.
The horse was struck after it ran in front of a vehicle operated by James Johnson of Chaplin. Johnson was driving west on Highgrove Road east of Fairfield when the accident happened. After striking the horse, the vehicle continued down the road where it struck a mailbox before coming to rest in a ditch.
Johnson had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Northeast Nelson Fire Department and Nelson County Fire. He was treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS and flown from the scene to University Hospital.
Police have spoken with area residents but have been unable to locate the owner or owners of the horse. They are asking the public’s help in finding the animal’s owner.
