KSP trooper, E’town man save life of 4-year-old injured in E’town crash

Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, 12:30 p.m. — An off-duty Kentucky State Police trooper and an Elizabethtown man are credited with helping save the life of a four-year-old child involved in an injury accident Wednesday afternoon in Elizabethtown.
According to the KSP Post 4 press release, KSP Trooper Josh Cummings was off duty and returning home from the gym when he pulled up on a single-vehicle injury accident on the US 31W Bypass. Witnesses were already out of their vehicles checking on the accident victims, and Cummings was told a child involved in the accident was not breathing.
Cummings and Wood positioned the child for CPR, with Wood providing rescue breaths while Cummings monitored her pulse and provided chest compressions. The child began breathing on her they monitored her until EMS arrived. The child was treated at the scene and later flown to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
The accident is being investigated by the Elizabethtown Police Department.
