Obituary: Gertrude Franklin ‘Gertie’ Roberts, 84, Bloomfield

GERTRUDE FRANKLIN “GERTIE” ROBERTS

Gertrude Franklin “Gertie” Roberts, 84, of Bloomfield, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. She was born May 22, 1932, in Spencer County to the late Shelby and Lillie Lauer Daily. She was a former employee of the old Roberts Restaurant, a former food service employee for the Nelson County Board of Education and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Washington County. She loved the outdoors, flowers, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Rats” Roberts and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Roberts of Bardstown and Sandy Collins of Danville; one son, Alan Wood “Boo” (Elaine) Roberts of Bloomfield; one brother, Shelby (Doris) Daily of Jeffersontown; four grandchildren, Kristy (Dee) Meeks of Bloomfield, Megan (Jason) Garrison of California, Phillip (Erin) Roberts of North Carolina and Jacob Henderson of Louisville; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Johnnie Bailey officiating. Burial is in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at the funeral home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
