Dump truck driver dies from injuries in Monday crash near New Hope

Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, 9:30 a.m. — The victim of Monday’s dump truck crash near New Hope died at University Hospital of injuries sustained in the crash.

Fatal-Crash-GFX-300x225According to a press release from the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, Francis Newton, 70, of Nelson County, was driving north on Gap Knob Road when is 1987 dump truck left the roadway and overturned.

At about 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, Nelson County EMS, the Rolling Fork and New Hope fire departments and New Haven Police Chief K.C. Holbert were dispatched to the area of Gap Knob Road for an injury crash. EMS treated the male victim at the scene and transported him to the New Hope ballpark to meet with a medical helicopter. The victim was flown to University Hospital in Louisville where he later died.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
