Obituary: Dorothy Viola ‘Dort’ Durbin, 93, Bardstown

DOROTHY VIOLA “DORT” DURBIN

Dorothy Viola “Dort” Durbin, 93, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born July 28, 1923, in Bardstown to the late Howard Leslie and Laura Josephine Clemens Durbin Sr. She was a former nurse’s aid at the old Flaget Hospital. She was a caregiver who volunteered for Meals On Wheels. She was a member of Bardstown United Methodist Church where she delivered communion to shut-ins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Massie Evelyn Pryor; and and eight brothers; Roy Lee Durbin, Albert Raymond “Pete” Durbin, Curtis Leslie “Pedro” Durbin, Marvin Ellis “Monk” Durbin, Howard Jr. “Shine” Durbin, Everett Durbin, Walter Louis “Buck” Durbin and Wallace Ray “Sam” Durbin.

She is survived by one sister-in-law; Juanita K. Durbin of Bardstown; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road with Pastor Scott Stith officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to the Bardstown United Methodist Church.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
