Obituary: Joseph Samuel ‘Sam’ Cecil, 79, Louisville

Joseph Samuel “Sam” Cecil, 79, of Louisville, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Norton Hosparus Center in Louisville. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church in Louisville.

funeral_angelHe was born Feb. 24, 1937 to the late Robert Andrew and Anna Marie Woods Cecil. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a maintenance man for 36 years at AKZO Nobel. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Albert Cecil, Charles Cecil, Robert “Buddy” Cecil, Marvin Cecil, Joseph “Fred” Cecil, and Robert Andrew “Bob” Cecil Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Margo Green Cecil of Louisville; three daughters, Mary Cheryl (Brian) Hardy, Lisa (Jerry) Wood and Joan (Ron) Schweitzer, all of Louisville; two sisters, Sr. Marie Carol Cecil of Mount St. Joseph, Owensboro, and Jean (Jackie) French of Hodgenville; two brothers, LeRoy Cecil of New Haven and Tommy (Lois Ann) Cecil of Howardstown; six grandchildren, Nicholas Hardy, Erin Hardin, Rachel Wood, Michael Wood, Maria Burke and Olivia Schweitzer; and several brothers and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Highway in Louisville with the Rev. Joe Rankin officiating. Burial is in the St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery in Howardstown.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, and 9:30-11 a.m. at the Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway in Louisville.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home in Hodgenville is in charge of arrangements.
