Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, 2 a.m. — A Bardstown teenager is facing a reckless homicide charge for her role in a fatal crash that happened at the intersection of North Third Street and Plum Run Road.
According to the citation, at about 8:15 Wednesday, Dec. 14, Kailey Jo Farmer, 18, of Bardstown, was operating a 1997 Chevrolet when she ran the red light at North Third Street and Plum Run Road, striking a vehicle in which Wanda Rogers, 60, was a passenger. Rogers died at the scene from her injuries.
Farmer told police she did not know why she ran the light, but said it could have been due to ice on the windshield obstructing her vision. She consented to a blood testing, and a sample was taken at Flaget Memorial Hospital while she was there being treated for her injuries. According to the citation, police did not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
Police seized Farmer’s cell phone as evidence in the investigation.
Reckless homicide is a Class D felony, punishable by one to five years in prison.
Farmer’s will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 in Nelson District Court.
