Obituary: John Irvin Newton, 77, Louisville
John Irvin Newton, 77, of Louisville, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at University of Louisville Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1939, in Manton. He retired from Boland-Maloney Lumber Company after 36 years of service. He also operated Manton Grocery for several years. He was a Mason and a member of Abraham Lodge No. 8 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Janice Lee Mattingly Newton; his parents, Joseph Irvin and Thelma Laura Blanford Newton; one sister, Martha Hamilton; six brothers, Martin Vannie Newton, Joseph Derlin Newton, Thomas B. “Blank” Newton, Bobby Newton and twin infants Irvin Newton and Earl Newton.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Johnson (Walter) of Louisville; three sons, Bruce Newton (Rebecca Mae) of Manton, John Newton and Steve Newton, both of Louisville; four grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Russell Johnson, Joseph Newton and Taylor Newton; and two stepgrandchildren, Chris Dunn and Courtney Dunn.
The A Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton with the Rev. Matt Hardesty officiating. Burial is in the St. Francis of Assisi cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto.
The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
