Council OKs utility request for ambulatory care center to be built near Walmart

Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, 11 p.m. — The Bardstown City Council approved a request to provide water and sewer services for a new 70,150 square-foot ambulatory care center that will be built on a 6.99 acre tract of land on East John Rowan between Corvin’s Furniture and Culpepper Street near Walmart.
The Minneapolis, Minn.-based Medcraft Healthcare Real Estate will pay to construct the necessary extensions to tie into the city’s existing water and sewer infrastructure according to Public Works Director Larry Hamilton. The council’s approval means the city will accept maintenance of the utility lines once they are constructed.
WORK SESSION NOW REGULAR MEETING. The council introduced an ordinance that will establish the monthly working session at 5 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month as an official council meeting. The meeting will replace the work session, and will be canceled if there is no business to bring to the meeting.
STREET CLOSURE. The council agreed to entertain a request to close Woodward Drive, a platted but unbuilt street that ran parallel to Louisville Road between Louisville Road and the Rogan Mobile Home Park. The street was platted before the area was annexed into the city and was never developed. An ordinance to close the street will be prepared for the the Jan. 17, 2017 council meeting.
MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CELEBRATION. Councilwoman Kecia Copeland reminded the council that everyone is invited to the local Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017. The event begins at noon at St. Monica Catholic Church, 407 South Third St. in Bardstown.
In other business, the council:
— approved a municipal order to add Councilman Joe Buckman to the list of those authorized to sign the city’s financial documents.
— approved appointing councilmen Joe Buckman and Dick Heaton to the planning and zoning regulation committee.
— approved the appointment of Janet Tonge to the Human Rights Commission to fill the unexpired term of Michael Johnson.
— approved the re-appointment of Donald Blincoe to the property maintenance board of appeals.
— approved appointment of Doug Hubbard to fill the unexpired term of Dick Heaton on the Bardstown Industrial Development Board (BIDC).
— approved appointing Dick Heaton to fill the unexpired term of Bobby Simpson on the BIDC.
— approved reappointing Mary Keene and Beth Barkley to the Historic Review Board.
— re-appointed Margaret Sue Masters to serve as the Tourist Commission as nominated by the Hospitality Association.
