ANNA LOUISE HAMILTON EDELEN

Anna Louise Hamilton Edelen, 87, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Raising her children in Loretto, her greatest joy and vocation was mother, wife and homemaker. She was a devout Catholic and found great spiritual strength through her faith. She and her five siblings grew up in Holy Cross. She worked for Barton’s Distillery in Bardstown for more than 40 years. She was blessed with loving care given by Dr Michael Stiles, the staff at Windsor Garden, and Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Minnie Hicks; her siblings Junior Hicks, Adolph Hicks, Kathleen Canter, John Peak Hicks and Joyce Maglior; her first husband, Joseph Harold Hamilton, the father of her children; one infant daughter, Mary Geraldine Hamilton; one son, Joseph Harold Hamilton; her second husband, George Edelen Sr., and one stepdaughter Angela Cissell.

She is survived by her children, Gale (DB) Bhattacharyya and Donna (David) Miles, both of Lexington, Linda (Donnie) Thompson of Fisherville, Phyllis (Jerry) Kroggel of Nicholasville, Doris (Wally) Thompson and Jane (Robbie) Reynolds, both of Bardstown, and Sam Hamilton of Loretto; dearest friend and sister-in-law Louise Hicks; one brother-in-law, Tony Maglior; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two on the way; stepgranddaughters Anita Eng and Sara Thompson; loved as a daughter-in-law, Trina Judson; 12 stepchildren, Wanda (Danny) Spalding of Springfield, Patty (Mark) Holt of Bloomfield, Lee Ann (Eddie) Roberts of Holy Cross; Linda (Johnny) Cissell, Billie (Patty) Edelen, Dennis Edelen, Eddie Edelen, Keith (Debbie) Edelen, Doug (Pat) Edelen, Tony (Lisa) Edelen and Greg (Renee) Edelen, all of Loretto and Ralph (Patsy) Edelen of Cox’s Creek; and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant. Loving family friend Rhonda Livers will give her eulogy.

Pallbearers will be her son, Sam Hamilton, and grandsons Brian Stephenson, Jason Kroggel, Aaron Thompson, Adam Miles, Cody Reynolds, Stuart Hamilton and Dylan Hamilton.

Honorary pallbearers are Greg Edelen and granddaughters Christa Hestekin, Tracy Francis, Jessica Miles Arbuthnot , Karen Downard, Amanda Thompson, Anna Reynolds, Chasity Joe Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Sisters of Loretto, 515 Nerinx Rd., Nerinx, KY 40049 in memory of Anna Hamilton Edelen.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
