Obituary: Mary Sylvia Slater, 89, formerly of New Haven
Mary Sylvia Slater, 89, of Louisville, formerly of New Haven, died Monday, January 16, 2017, peacefully at her home surrounded by her children. She was born April 8, 1927 in New Haven and was one of 14 children.
She loved politics and was a member of the Women’s Republican Club for 55 years. She was also a lifetime member of South Park Country Club where she was an avid golfer, and enjoyed many bowling leagues over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Slater; and one son, Stan Slater, whose ashes will be placed with his mother and grandson Sean.
She is survived by her daughter, Starr Pottinger (David); two sons, Richard Slater and Jeffrey Slater; three sisters, Elizabeth Lawson, Jane Gambert and Doris Wise; two brothers, Mike Pottinger (Elizabeth) and Jimmy Pottinger (Helen); two granddaughters, Dana Brockman (Chris) and Jamie Davis; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road in Louisville.
A celebration of life service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at the funeral home followed by burial in the Calvary Cemetery.
