Obituary: Thomas Leon ‘Tommy’ Spalding Sr., 90, formerly of Loretto
Thomas Leon ‘Tommy’ Spalding Sr., 90, formerly of Loretto, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born March 30, 1926, in Washington County. He was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois in Bardstown and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Margaret Yates Spalding; his parents, James Baker and Rosella Mattingly Spalding; three sisters, Emma Milburn, Louise Murphy Yates and Hazel Yates; five brothers, Leo “Soap” Spalding, Theodore Spalding, Joe Spalding, Augustine Spalding and Charles L. “Sonny” Spalding; and one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Blandford.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Blandford (Roy) of Springfield; two sons, Pete Spalding of Georgetown and Ronnie Spalding (Angie) of Bardstown; one sister, Martha Rose Miles of Bardstown; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 6964 Cissellville Road, Manton, with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayers service at 7 p.m.
