County GOP to hold reorganization convention, Monday, March 6
Community news
Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 — Republicans in Nelson County will meet 6-9 p.m. March 6, 2017, at the Nelson County Public Library, 201 Cathedral Manor to reorganize the local party.
Kentucky Republicans reorganize at the state and local level every four years. On the local level, a grassroots reorganization precedes a county reorganization to be held on the same day.
Nelson County Republicans will choose precinct leadership followed by county leadership, including the offices of chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, and youth chair. Robert Augustine has served as chairperson for the past five years.
“All eligible Republicans are invited to attend, participate, and run for offices,” Augustine said. “We will have an open, transparent process.”
In order to participate, you must have been a registered Republican in your precinct in Nelson County by last year’s general election. You will also need an-up-to date photo I.D.
Registration is 6-6:45 p.m., and precinct meetings begin at 7 p.m. Each precinct may elect a precinct chair, precinct co-chair, and precinct youth chair. The newly elected precinct officers will then convene immediately after — following a short break if time permits — acting as the county executive committee that will nominate and elect or re-elect county officers.
“In the upcoming weeks, I am hoping to visit and speak with as many local media outlets as possible to answer questions about the process,” Augustine said. “It is a convention. It’s subject to state-party rules and Robert’s Rules of Order. While it’s necessary to have that structure, the process should be generally uncomplicated.”
