Obituary: Rolland Wayne Hoffman, 70, Canaan, Ind.

Rolland Wayne Hoffman, 70, of Canaan, Ind., died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at his home comforted by his family. He was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Seymour, Ind., to Willard “Sammy” and Ethel Corya Hoffman.

He grew up in the Indiana towns of North Vernon, Paris, and Commiskey, and graduated in 1963 from Deputy High School. He played basketball in high school. He loved fishing, hunting, NASCAR and watching sports on TV, especially basketball. He loved riding horses and owned several throughout his lifetime. He was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet mechanic.

He was a retired journeyman pipefitter, a 40-plus years brother in the Plumber & Steamfitters Local 440 union in Indianapolis. He was a dedicated and hard-working pipefitter who drove thousands of miles from his home in Canaan each week going to work that was usually in Indianapolis, Terra Haute or Evansville, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anna Mae Hoffman Corya.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lori Case Hoffman; one daughter, Debra Scudder; one son, David Hoffman; one stepson, Jeremy Douglas; and their families.

He donated his body to the Indiana University School of Medicine and didn’t want a funeral or services. His cremains will be scattered over his fishing pond, with some interred at the Bardstown Cemetery at a later date.
