Obituary: Charles Edmond King, 85, Cox’s Creek

Charles Edmond King, 85, of Cox’s Creek, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, with his family at his side following a short illness. He was born Aug. 4, 1931, on his family farm in Samuels, which he farmed until his death. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean War stationed in Okinawa. He was an electrical contractor for many years prior to starting work at the former Lily Tulip, which became Owens-Illinois. He worked there for 28 years serving as supervisor of many production departments. He was an avid fan of the Nelson County High School’s girls basketball team since 1987, and attended as many games as he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Milford and Minnie Kay King; and sister, Phyllis Lloyd.

He is loved and survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Walker King; two daughters, Melinda King of Lexington and Kimberly (Jim) Tagg of Tampa, Fla.; one son, Charles William Janes Jr. of Bardstown; six grandchildren, Adam Janes, Kirsti (Louie) Dean, McKenna Tagg, James Tagg, Marlee Haynes, and Samantha Roberts; and one great-grandson Devin Mattingly.

The funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Bardstown United Methodist Church, with burial in Bardstown Cemetery with the Rev. Scott C. Stith officiating.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 and 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown.

Memorial contributions may go to Bardstown United Methodist Church Youth Programs.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
