Shooting victim found at scene of early-morning accident; one arrested

A Bardstown man was arrested Tuesday morning on assault and weapon charges following an investigation of a shooting that was discovered after an early morning injury accident at the intersection of KY 245 and Templin Avenue.

At 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, Bardstown Police, Nelson County EMS and the Bardstown Fire Department were called to the intersection of KY 245 and Templin Avenue for a two-vehicle injury accident. A witness told 911 dispatchers that one of the people involved in the accident had a gunshot wound in the right arm.

EMS treated a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound at the scene and transported him to Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville.

Bardstown Police asked the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office to investigate after they learned the shooting happened outside the city limits at a home in the 2500 block of New Haven Road.

Dustin C. Edmonds, 26, was arrested at his residence by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office just after 8:30 a.m. He was charged with second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Second-degree assault is a Class C felony punishable by not less than five years nor more than 10 years in prison.
