Obituary: William Grover Gardner, 71, Bardstown
William Grover Gardner, 71, of Bardstown, died Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. He was born March 15, 1946, in Loretto. He was a former self-employed construction worker and concrete finisher. He loved spending time with his grandkids, working with his hands and helping people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ambrose and Mary Pauline Mitchell Gardner; one infant brother, Joseph Sidney Gardner; his father and mother-in-law, William and Helen Spalding; two brothers-in-law, Gary Blanford and infant Philip Spalding.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Hilda Spalding Gardner; one daughter, Gina Hall (Matthew) of Cox’s Creek; two sons, Greg Gardner (Cathy) of Loretto and Glenn Gardner (Becky) of Bardstown; three sisters, Janice Bray (Jerry) of Raywick, Paulette Blanford and Anita Gardner, both of Loretto; two brothers, Carroll Gardner (Ellen) of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Roger Gardner (Lisa) of St. Francis; three sisters-in-law, Diane McCauley (Leon) and Marlene Newton (Mitchell), both of Bardstown and Sharon Hagan (Freeman) of Holy Cross; three brothers-in-law, Harry Spalding (Huberta) of Mount Washington, and Keith Spalding (Frieda) and Steve Spalding (Wanda) both of Bardstown; seven grandchildren, Lindsay Rhodus, Lauren Gardner, Adam Gardner, Audrey Dragoo, Presley Mattingly, Garrett Hall and Sarah Hall; and four great-grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto with burial in the church cemetery wiht the Rev. Jason Harris officiating.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Pallbearers are Garrett Hall, Adam Gardner, Jason Rhodus, Brennan Hillard, Casey Mattingly, Craig Downs, Danny Norris and Roger Gardner. Honorary pallbearers are Parker Cecil and Zachary Rhodus.
The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
