Obituary: Elizabeth Lavon Ballard Wimsett, 92, Icetown
Elizabeth Lavon Ballard Wimsett, 92, of Icetown, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. She was born Oct. 8, 1924 to the late William and Hilda Schircliff Ballard in Akron, Ohio. She was a lifetime member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Joseph Edward “Joe” Wimsett; her parents, William and Hilda Schircliff Ballard Wimsett; and one sister, Mary Josephine “Josie” Bryan.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen (Mike) Bullock of Icetown, Kathy (B.J.) Greenwell of Bardstown and Joyce (Tommy) Hornback of Lyons Station; two sons, Kenny Wimsett of Bardstown and Keith (Kim) Wimsett of Icetown; one brother, Buddy (Bobbi Jo Carver) Ballard of New Haven; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wimsett and Lois Wimsett, both of New Haven; one brother-in-law, Leo (Wilma) Wimsett of New Haven; 17 grandchildren, David (Dawn) Wimsett, Stephanie (Charlie) Hagan, Shannon (Phil) Millener, Julie (Ben) Geoghegan, Derrick (Erica) Greenwell, Devin (Micah) Greenwell, Taylor (Abby) Wimsett, Cameron Wimsett, Chandler Wimsett, Jennifer Bauer, Rebecca (John) Reed, Eddie Wimsett, Amanda (Jason) Haiby, Cody Wimsett, Ryan (Ashley) Hornback, Kaylee Hornback and Ashley (Luke) Smith; 25 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Lois Bryan Bullock of Bardstown; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Chris Lubecke and the Rev. Scott Wimsett officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, and 8-10 a.m. Thursday at the William R. Rust Funeral Home, 167 N. Main St. in New Haven with a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Expressions of sympathy may go to St. Catherine School in New Haven.
