Obituary: Bonnie ‘Jewell’ Burgess Allen, 87, Boston
Bonnie “Jewell” Burgess Allen, 87, of Boston, went to Heaven on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. She was born Sept. 22, 1929. in Chattanooga, Tenn. to Arthur Burgess and Lena Holt Burgess. She moved to Loyall, Ky. at the age of nine. She later met and married Kenneth Allen of Loyall. They married on Christmas Day 1947 and lived in Louisville approximately 26 years before moving to Boston, where they have lived the past 36 years.
She was a truly beautiful and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was like a second mother to her grandchildren, all of whom adored her. She was soft-spoken but was not afraid to say what she thought. She loved her church and God. She and her husband loved going to the “chicken house.” She was a gardener, loved to crochet and made beautiful flower arrangements.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Arthur Burgess and Lena Holt Burgess; one sister, Christine Elliott; and a step grandson, Dustin.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Kenneth E. Allen; one daughter, Teresa (Tom) Storck of Louisville; two sons, Steve (Ava) Allen of Boston and Perry (Tresa) Allen of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Evan, Erin, Clint, Heather, Kelli, Ian, Ethan, Hunter, and Raquel; one step-grandson, Jacob; and seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Autumn, Collin, Austin, Grayson, Cooper, and Braxton.
The funeral is 3 p.m. Saturday April 8, 2017, at College Heights United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Adam Sparks officiating. Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, and 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the church.
