Chandler is keynote speaker at Dem’s Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner

Monday, April 10, 2017, 6 p.m. — Former Congressman Ben Chandler will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Democratic Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner on Friday, April 21.

The event, hosted by the Nelson County Democratic Woman’s Club and the Nelson County Democratic Executive Committee, will be held at the Maywood Country Club, 130 Maywood Avenue in Bardstown. The cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m., with a buffet dinner to be served at 7:30 p.m.

The Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner is the annual fund-raising celebration for the Nelson County Democratic Party. It is named for Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, founding fathers of the Democratic Party.

Tickets for the evening are $40 per person in advance and $45 at the door. Tickets may be obtained by calling Martha Nest, the Nelson County Democratic Woman’s Club President and dinner chairman at (502) 507-6965.

Tickets are available at Kenny’s Cleaners, 456 East Stephen Foster Avenue, and the Kentucky Bourbon Marketplace, located at 110 West Flaget Ave.

Dinner attendees will have the chance to win a Kentucky Derby Party Basket, and a signed, framed Jim Cantrell 2017 Derby poster by participating in an entertaining guessing game at the dinner.

ABOUT BEN CHANDLER. Chandler served as Kentucky state auditor (1992-1995), Kentucky attorney general (1995-2003), and was elected to represent the 6th Congressional District from 2004-2013. In 2016 he was named president and CEO of the non-profit Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.

Chandler is an eighth-generation Woodford Countian. He earned a B.A. Degree in history, graduating with distinction from the University of Kentucky, and a J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law. He studied at the University of London and Trinity college in Dublin, including an internship the British Parliament.

Chandler practiced law with Brown, Todd & Heyburn, and later with Reeves & Grady before beginning a career in public service. As Attorney General he helped create KASPER, a national model for battling prescription drug abuse. He established a public corruption unit, lobbied successfully for Kentucky’s first “No Call” list, strengthened consumer protection laws, and championed “Megan’s Law” and victim’s rights.

He fought for and won a $45 million settlement from one of Kentucky’s largest insurance companies and that funding was used to create the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, a foundation dedicated to helping to improve the health of Kentuckians, one of the five unhealthiest states in the Union.

In 2016 he was asked to serve as President and CEO of the Foundation that had been established as a result of the winning of that lawsuit on behalf of Kentuckians, where he is able to continue working for the improvement of the health of his fellow Kentucky citizens.
