The Rev. John W. Dickman, 88, Louisville

The Rev. John W. Dickman, 88, of Louisville, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Sacred Heart Village.

He was a former pastor at St. Gregory Parish in Samuels who served from the 1970s through the early 1980s. He also served at St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis of Rome, St. Pius X, all in Louisville and St. Aloysius in Pewee Valley. Following his ordination in 1948, he studied in Rome, Italy for two years, worked as secretary for the Chancery office and served as chaplain at Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women for 20 Years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael W. and Margaret J. Dickman; sisters, Mary Margaret Dickman, Sister Jane Mary Dickman SCN, Martha Herb and Dorothy Dickman; brothers, Phil and Harry Dickman.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mildred Dickman; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Pewee Valley. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, also in Pewee Valley. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 p.m. at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.

Memorial gifts can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 212 Mt. Mercy Dr, Pewee Valley, KY 40056.  The Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood is in charge of arrangements.
