Obituary: Charlotte Ella Payne Roberts, 84, Bardstown
Charlotte Ella Payne Roberts, 84, of Bardstown, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Signature Colonial Nursing Home. She was born in Bardstown on Jan. 11, 1933, to the union of Thomas Aldon and Mary Isabelle Hardin Payne.
She attended the old St. Monica’s Elementary school and graduated from Bardstown Training High School. She then attended and received a degree in office practice from West Kentucky Vocational School in Paducah, Kentucky. She then moved to Indianapolis and worked in the Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison.
She was an avid reader. She went on a 24-day European tour, she later toured Rome and the Holy Land with her cousin, Lounette. She travelled to Mexico and Okinawa and took other trips and cruises. Bowling and sewing were her hobbies. She was also a member of St. Peter Claver Auxiliary at St. Monica Catholic Church.
She will be missed by her family, friends and by the staff at Signature Colonial who took great care of her during the last 17 years of her life. Eternal rest give to her O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Louise Payne Hayes and Mary Josephine Payne Meadows; and four brothers, Thomas Hardin Payne, William Joseph Payne, John Watts Payne, and her twin brother, Charles Edward Payne.
She is survived by her cousin, Sarah Lounette Payne of Bardstown; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at St. Monica Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Do officiating. Burial is in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, and 9-10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Rd. with a prayer service Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
