Obituary: Alan Brown Sr., 77, Bardstown

ALAN BROWN SR.

Alan Brown Sr., 77, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Baptist Health in Louisville. He was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, a metallurgical engineer and entrepreneur during his career. He had many talents and hobbies. He loved life and captured it through his lens as a photographer. He was a fisherman, a scuba diver, a gardener, a tinkerer and collector, with insatiable curiosity and boundless imagination. His family and friends greatly respected him as a lover of liberty who was always learning and educating others while defending the U.S. Constitution. He was a formidable cribbage player who kept his edge right up to the end. He had a sharp mind and made friends everywhere he went. Most of all he became a devoted Catholic after many years of searching, and was an inspiration to many people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Agnes Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Brown of Bardstown; two daughters, Ann Brown of Bardstown and Lynn (Jeff) Baunach of Louisville; three sons, Robert Brown of Bardstown, Michael (Laura) Brown of Louisville and Alan Brown Jr. of Bardstown; three grandchildren, Brendan, Benjamin, and Molly Baunach; one sister, Micaela (Bill) Wilson of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and three nephews.

The funeral is 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Jason Harris officiating assisted by the Rev. Matthew Hardesty.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Barlow Funeral Home and 10:30-11:30 Friday at the church. The Holy Rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet will be prayed Friday morning prior to the funeral. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
