Obituary: Wanda Mae Thomas Richardson, 81, Mount Washington

Wanda Mae Thomas Richardson, 81, of Mount Washington died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Signature Health Care in Taylorsville after a fall she sustained April 5, 2017. She was born in Chaplin on Sept. 4, 1935, to Arthur Wilton and Lillian Armstrong Thomas. She was the oldest of four children.

She won the title of Miss Nelson County REA in 1951 and was a 1953 graduate of Bloomfield High School where she was a cheerleader for the Bloomfield Indians. For 62 years, she served as a church organist and pianist. She played most recently for Bethany Baptist Church in Mount Washington, and retired as organist from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she held her membership. She also served as pianist for the gospel singing group, The Journeymen.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Bardstown Finance, and was coordinator for the Bullitt County Senior Citizens. She also served in the cafeteria at Roby Elementary School.

She loved to bake, sew, travel, and visit with her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed for her Christmas mugs, birthday pies, and numerous cards and letters she sent through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Wendell Clark Thomas, James Arthur Thomas and Harry Roger Thomas; and one daughter, Michelle Leigh Richardson.

She was a dedicated wife and mother to her husband of 61 years, Edmond Elwood Richardson; to her three children, Jacqueline Suzanne Beardall (Russell) of Overland Park, Kan., Marke Wesley Richardson (Tammy) of Shepherdsville and Michael Maria Lyne “Mickey” Richardson of Mount Washington; eight grandchildren, Elisabeth Beardall-Nemecek (Christopher), Nikolas Beardall (Lauren), Catharine Beardall Hudman (Justin), Susahnah Beardall, Evangelos Beardall (Taylor), Caroline Beardall, Anna Grace Porter and Ella Mae Porter; and two great grandsons, Todd Hudman and Cooper Hudman.

The funeral was 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial in the Highview Cemetery at Chaplin.

The McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
