Obituary: Joe Willie McAtee 78, Lebanon

Joe Willie McAtee 78, of Lebanon died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at St Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington. He was born April 17, 1939, to the late Chester and Ella VanCleave McAtee. He was a native of Marion County where he worked at Springview Hospital for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters, Margaret Owens, Dorothy Means, Sarah Porter, Doris Patterson, Mary Hayden, Daisy Means, and Ruth McAtee; and one brother, Henry McAtee.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Epps McAtee; daughters, Mary Downs, Carol Downs and Deidre McAtee of Lexington and Katrina Belle of Bardstown; six sons, Gary Downs, Joe Downs, Larry Downs and Dewayne Downs, all of Lexington, Bobby Joe Downs of Georgetown and Lynn Bell of Lebanon; one brother, Chester McAtee Jr. of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.

The funeral was 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Campbell-Dewitt Funeral Home in Lebanon with burial in the Ryder Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Neal, Tyrone Porter, Terry Furmon, Lynn Bell, Charles Burch, and Michael Johnson Jr.; honorary pallbearer was Ja’Ven Adams.

The Campbell-Dewitt Funeral Home in Lebanon was in charge of arrangements.
