Obituary: Charles ‘Charlie’ Henry Rogers, 85, Bardstown
Charles “Charlie” Henry Rogers, 85, of Bardstown, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Petersburg, to the late Hugh and Iva Rose Rogers. Charlie was a member and deacon emeritus of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Bardstown, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a 1949 graduate of Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Kentucky. He was an alumni of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He also graduated from the LSU School of Banking of the South.
He was a retired banker who served as past president of Corbin Deposit Bank, Lincoln County National Bank and Bank of Elizabethtown. He most recently retired from First Federal Savings Bank of Bardstown. He formerly served as a board member for the Kentucky Bankers Association.
His hobbies included playing golf, making furniture in his workshop and following his five grandchildren in their various activities. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Alpha and Iva Rose Croswaithe Rogers; three brothers, Don Rogers, Bernie Rogers and Jim Rogers; one nephew, Jim; and one niece, Lynn.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Lou Sutherland Rogers formerly of Bloomfield; two daughters, Kim Rogers Hartlage (Denis) of Elizabethtown and Tricia Rogers Crowe (Shawn) of Lawrenceburg; and five grandchildren, Ashley Marie Hartlage, Lauren Rose Hartlage, Jonathan Connor Wells, Ryan Huston Wells and Austin Jeffrey Crowe.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road in Bardstown with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to the Bardstown First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Building Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
