Wednesday, May 3, 2017 — A 26-year-old Campbellsville man was indicted Wednesday for manslaughter after a passenger in a car he was driving died in a Jan. 22 crash in Nelson County.

Jerico Paul Bentley was indicted by a Nelson County grand jury for second-degree manslaughter and for being a persistent felony offender.

According to the indictment, Bentley allegedly operated his vehicle “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life,” causing the crash that led to the death of Emily Jo Outlaw, 21, of Louisville.

According to police, on Sunday, Jan. 22, Bentley was operating a 2006 Honda that was reported stolen in Nelson County. The vehicle ran off the road north of Bloomfield on KY 55 and crashed near Stephens Lane. Bentley was ejected from the vehicle. Outlaw died of her injuries at the scene. Bentley was treated at the scene and then transported to University Hospital.

The indictment cites Bentley’s prior felony conviction as basis for the persistent felony offender charge.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash only plus conditions. Bentley’s arraignment is set for 1 p.m. May 18, 2017.

Editor’s Note: The indictment of a person by a grand jury or otherwise is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
