Obituary: Joseph Donald ‘Joe’ Mahoney Sr., 74, New Haven

Joseph Donald “Joe” Mahoney Sr., 74, of New Haven, died Monday, May 8, 2017 at his home. He was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven. He was born Sept. 27, 1942, to the late Kendrick Anthony and Mary Agnes Dawson Mahoney. He retired after 33 years of service with LG&E. After retiring he worked for more than 10 years for the Abbey of Gethsemani in which he enjoyed so much. He was a loved husband and a respected father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and most of all, friend.

Survivors include his wife, Alice M. “Allie” Culver Mahoney of New Haven; two daughters, Joan (John) Stallings and Julie Mahoney, both of New Haven; two sons, Don (Susan) Mahoney and David (Theresa) Mahoney, both of New Haven; one sisters, Dorothy Ann Hall of Bardstown; four brothers, Dick Mahoney of Melbourne, Fla., Kenny (Kay) Mahoney and Jim (Martha) Mahoney, both of Bardstown and Bill (Sue) Mahoney of New Haven; five grandchildren, Kendrick Mahoney, Courtney Mahoney, Cassidy Mahoney, Taylor Stallings and Thomas Stallings, all of New Haven; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Chris Lubecke officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

VIsitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 8-10 a.m. Thursday at the William R. Rust Funeral Home, 167 North Main St., New Haven with a 5 p.m. prayer service Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.

The William R. Rust Funeral Home in New Haven is in charge of arrangements.
