Obituary: Paul J. Gootee, 93, Indianapolis

PAUL J. GOOTEE

Paul J. Gootee, 93, of Indianapolis, died peacefully on Sunday morning, May 7, 2017 and started the next journey with the sun coming up. He was born March 13, 1924 in Indianapolis to the late Joseph W. and Gertrude (Simms) Gootee. He worked his entire life as a painter, beginning at age 12 and painted in Irvington those many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Cecilia; and one brother, Harold.

Survivors include five sisters, Hazeal, Virginia, Lorraine, Martha, Ruthann (Harold) and Mary Jo; one brother Joe Gootee II; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 6964 Cissellville Road, Manton with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty presiding. Burial is in the church cemetery with military rites by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at the church. Visitation is also 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home, Moore & Kirk Irvington Chapel, 5342 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219.

The Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
