Obituary: Kenneth ‘Shorty’ Gribbins, 86, New Hope

Kenneth “Shorty” Gribbins, 86, of New Hope, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at his residence. He was a native of New Hope. He was born Aug. 23, 1930. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Gribbins; one son, Clayton Gribbins; two sisters, Wanda Phillips and infant Laura Lou Gribbins; and two brothers, J. R. Gribbins and Clinton Gribbins.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann Gribbins (Steve) of Bardstown, Patty Hurst (Jerry) of New Haven and Linda Burress (Kendall) of New Hope; three sons, Kenny Gribbins of New Hope, Timmy Gribbins (Betty) of Bardstown and Don Gribbins (Sandy) of New Hope; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 104 Church Street, New Hope with the Rev. Ken Fortener officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Jim Cecil.

Pallbearers are Andy Hurst, Kurt Edelen, Todd Gribbins, Tim Gribbins, Don Gribbins and Kendall Burress; Honorary pallbearers are Allen Lyvers, Ben Hurst, Dane Gribbins and Charles Dant.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
