Obituary: Hattie Thompson Clements, 100
Hattie Thompson Clements, 100, returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 19, 2017 at her residence.
She was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Nelson County on the Thompson farm to the late William Leo and Harriet Cambron Thompson.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all who met her. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown. She was retired from Barton Distillery. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Nelson County Library. She was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), the Nelson County Homemakers, Altar Society and a founding member of the Bardstown-Nelson County Genealogical Roundtable.
She found her true calling as a historian and a self-made genealogist. This was her passion, tell her your last name, and if your origins were in Nelson, Washington or Marion Counties she was highly likely to have a story to tell you. She was lovingly known as Ms. Genealogy of Nelson County. The Bardstown-Nelson County Chamber of Commerce awarded her a plaque and a brick commemorating her induction into the Hall of Fame. Hattie’s contribution to people doing their family research extended to all over the United States and beyond. Her generous nature and “can-do” attitude was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
Her family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to her caregivers Diana Yates and Armani Miles, Sue Yates Jones and to Hospice of Nelson County. We would like to thank Father Matthew Hardesty and Father Tom Clark and Eucharistic ministers of Holy Trinity for their time and for administering the Sacraments during her illness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Marion Clements; infant daughter Marion Harriet Clements; one son George Gerald “Jerry” Clements; one daughter-in-law, Frankie Smith; and one son-in-law, Ed Carty; two sisters Mary Zita and Marie Lucille Hall; and two brothers, William Leo Thompson and Thomas Edward Thompson.
She is survived by eight children, Joseph David Clements, Betty Clements, Janice (Larry) Blandford, Bill (Kathy) Clements, Eric (Patsy) Clements, John Ed (Jill) Clements, Tessie Carty and Sharon (David) Brown; one daughter-in-law, Joann Ballard Clements; 28 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty and the Rev. Tom Clark con-celebrating. Burial is in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, and 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service Monday evening.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the form of masses for the repose of her eternal soul.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
