Obituary: Mary Ellen Jarboe, 93, Bardstown

MARY ELLEN JARBOE

Mary Ellen Jarboe, 93, of Bardstown, died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at her residence. She was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Springfield. She grew up in Lebanon and was a graduate of St. Charles High School. Before becoming a homemaker, she worked in Louisville in the cafeteria of St. Joseph Hospital and the Louisville Cement Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and the Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William Wathen Jarboe; her parents, Charles Arthur and Mary Louise Edelen Hill; and two brothers, Wilburn Hill and Robert Edward “Buck” Hill.

She is survived by five daughters, Donna (R.O.) Lyons, Judy (Buck) Underwood, Barbara (Tony) Bradley, Ann (Tim) Simpson and Jan (Keith) Sidebottom all of Bardstown; two sons, Billy Joe Jarboe of Georgia and Harold (Angel) Jarboe of Lexington; six sisters, Dorothy Edelen of Bardstown, Imogene Spalding and Laurencia Brussel, both of Lebanon, Louise Eichenberger of Louisville, Jane McGowan of Delaware, and Margaret Marshman of Illinois; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, and 9-10:15 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at Barlow Funeral Home with a 6 p.m. prayer service Sunday.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Parish Building Fund.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
