Obituary: Judith Spalding Riley, 76, Vernonia, Ore.
Judith Spalding Riley, 76, of Vernonia, Ore., died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her residence. She was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Lake City, Iowa. She was raised and received her education in the Farnhamville, Iowa area, having been a graduate of Farnhamville High School Class of 1959.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Edward “Joe” Riley on Oct. 8, 1966, in Tucson, Ariz. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Following their marriage they made their home in Tucson for nine months, until moving to El Paso, Texas. They lived in El Paso until moving to Livermore, Calif. in 1969. They lived in Livermore until July 1973 when they moved to Vernonia, Ore.
She was a clerical worker for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif., for several years. She also worked for Westland Trailer Company and Texaco in Portland, Ore., until she retired.
She was raised in the Episcopal faith. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines Women’s Chorus Singers, West Hills Chapter in Portland, Ore. She enjoyed music, reading, and caring for her American Eskimo Dog “Missy.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orin F. Spalding and Margaret Hardy Spalding.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Riley, of the family home in Vernonia, Ore.;
two sons, James E. “Jim” Lemon, of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Joseph P. “Joe” Riley (Leslie) of Bothel, Wash.; one sister, Jacqui Lopez (Angel) of Costa Mesa, Calif.; three grandchildren, Jenna Paige Riley, Caelan Claire Riley, and Adam Y. Belbachir; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Barlow Funeral Home with the Rev. Karl Lusk officiating. Burial is in the St. Michael Cemetery in Fairfield, Kentucky.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
