Obituary: James Robert Barber Jr., 62, formerly of Springfield
James Robert Barber Jr., 62, formerly of Springfield, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the VA Hospital in San Diego, Calif. He was born August 7, 1954, in Lebanon, Bob Barber Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Mudd. He spent his childhood in Springfield. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1975. During his service, he earned numerous medals and awards.
While stationed on the USS Midway, he met his wife of 37 years, Dolly Cabrera. They married Aug. 2, 1980. He retired from the Navy as CWO5 in May 2007 after 32 years of honorable service. He then worked for nearly 10 years as an Aerospace Engineer for Northrop Grumman.
He is survived by his wife, Dolly Barber of San Diego; one daughter, Courtney Ann Barber of San Diego; one son, Bobby Barber III (Jessica) of Edinboro, Penn.; his father, Bob Barber Sr. and stepmother, Shirley Barber, both of Springfield; three sisters, Betty, Rochelle, and Jackie; two brothers, Paul and Herman; two granddaughters, Madison Lynn Barber and Ellice Ann Barber; and several cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8200 Gold Coast Dr. San Diego, Calif. Burial is 12:30 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, Calif.
