Obituary: Sister Marylee King, SCN, 87, Louisville

Sister Marylee King, SCN, formerly Sister George Cecilia King, 87, a native of Topeka, Kan., died June 11, 2017, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. Sister had been a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 65 years.

She served as a teacher in elementary education at St. Thomas More School in Louisville from 1952-1959; in secondary education at Owensboro Catholic High in Owensboro from 1959-61 and at Our Lady of Nazareth Academy in Wakefield, Mass., from 1961-65.

After receiving her doctorate in Theology from Catholic University in 1970, Sister taught at Spalding College, later Spalding University, in Louisville from 1970-85. She then did research at the Jewish-Christian Dialogue Center in Rome from January till April 1985, followed by three months as College Instructor in Theology at Ecce Homo in Jerusalem. She then returned to Spalding University where she served until May 1988. She then again served for three months at Ecce Homo in Jerusalem. From August 1988 until May 1996, she served at Spalding University as Professor of Theology. From 1996 until 2009, she was part-time Instructor in Religion and Spirituality at Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. Since that time she has served in the Apostolate of Prayer.

She is survived by one sister, Patricia King Nevins of Estero, Fla.; by her religious community; and by the many persons whose lives she touched.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Nazareth Home in Louisville with a short prayer service in St. Vincent Church on the Nazareth campus later that day, followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Nazareth Home in Louisville.
