Obituary: Cheryl Marie Mattingly Johnson, 87, New Haven
Cheryl Marie Mattingly Johnson, 87, of New Haven, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Haven. She retired from Howard’s General Store in New Haven after 35 years of service. She was also an Avon representative who loved visiting her customers for more than 20 years. She was born Aug. 14, 1929 to the late James Proctor and Blanche Lee Hornback Mattingly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hardin Johnson; one son, James Bruce Johnson; two sisters, Naomi Nelson and Bernice “Neecy” DeMar; and two brothers, Charles Mattingly and Fred Mattingly.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer “Jenny” Cecil (Eddie) of New Haven; one son, Fred Johnson of New Haven; two granddaughters, Morgan Cecil and Emily Cecil, both of New Haven; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in New Haven with the Rev. Aaron Shipp officiating. Burial is in the Riverview Cemetery in New Haven.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, and 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the William R. Rust Funeral Home New Haven Chapel, 167 North Main St. in New Haven.
