Nelson County grand jury indicts Bardstown man on rape charge

Wednesday, June 21, 2017 — A Bardstown man was indicted by a Nelson County grand jury Wednesday on a first-degree rape charge.
According to the indictment, on May 30, 2017, Matthew Turner, 28, of Bardstown, allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse by use of forcible compulsion. The indictment also alleges Turner knowing provided an alcoholic or malt beverage to a minor on the same day.
Turner was indicted on charges of first-degree rape, a Class B felony, and unlawful transaction with a minor, third-degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash only, plus conditions.
A Class B felony is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison. A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $500.
