Friday, June 23, 2017 — Robin Handloser can see a lot to like at Old Kentucky Middle School and she will be part of it once again — this time, as the school’s new principal.

ROBIN HANDLOSER

Handloser was named Friday as the school’s new principal following final approval by the schools site-based decision-making council.

“I enjoyed my work there and am excited to have this opportunity to work with OKHMS students and teachers again,” Handloser said, who served as an instructional coach at OKHMS before joining the instructional team at The New Haven School.

“We are so happy to see Ms. Handloser move into this new position of leadership,” Superintendent Anthony Orr said through a press release. “Her work in Nelson County over the years has proven her enthusiasm, work ethic, and positive impact for the benefit of our students and community. Old Kentucky Home will be in caring, expert hands.”

“I see great energy and potential in the OKH school community” Handloser said during an interview prior to being named principal in a unanimous vote by the school’s site-based council.

At OKH Handloser sees the opportunity to “… create a culture of learning where teachers, students and parents are proud of their school and will be able to say, ‘this is MY SCHOOL.’ I want them to love their school and love learning,” she said.

Handloser also has somewhat of a personal interest in leading OKH forward. Not only has she worked there herself, her daughter Emily, is an alumnus of OKH and Nelson County High School as well.

She has been an educator for nearly 20 years. She spent much of her career as a science teacher and instructional leader at both the middle school and high school levels. She started her teaching career as a high school biology teacher and middle school integrated science teacher in northern Kentucky before joining the Nelson County Schools system in 2001. She has also taught in the Bullitt County Schools system as a 7th-grade science teacher.

Handloser earned her Masters of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees at Georgetown College. She is nearing completion of her Rank 1 School Principal training at University of the Cumberlands.

“I’m optimistic about the exciting work that lies ahead,” she said. “I’m anxious to collaborate with teachers and parents so together we can bring an enthusiasm for excellence.”
