Nelson County native was a victim of last’s Friday’s deadly Ohio crash

Monday, June 26, 2017 — A Nelson County native was one of three people who perished in a head-on crash early Friday, June 23, 2017, in Sandusky County, Ohio.

Cody Nelson, 25, was a native of Bardstown and a graduate of Nelson County High School. Nelson was one of two passengers who died in the crash.

The other passenger who died was 19-year-old Shelby Johnson of Louisville.

The man driving the 2013 Dodge Avenger, Matthew Bramel, 21, also of Louisville, also died in the crash. Another third passenger, Alexis Martin, 21, of New Albany, Ind., was injured in the crash.

The accident happened early Friday morning on U.S. 6 near Rollersville, Ohio, as the car Nelson was in attempted to pass another vehicle and struck an oncoming semi-tractor and trailer.

The driver of the semi, identified as Christopher Marietta, 39, of Elizabethtown, Ky., was uninjured.

The group of four were on their way to Cedar Point, an amusement park on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio.
