Obituary: Coach John C. Baird, 86, Magnolia

Coach John C. Baird, 86, of Magnolia, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at his son’s home. He was a native of Sturgis and a teacher and football coach at Elizabethtown High School. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Meade Baird; his parents, William and Rebecca Baird; and five siblings, Harold, Billy Ray, Bobby Lee, Mary Ellen, and Eddie Gayle.

He is survived by his son, Robin (Sandra) Baird of Magnolia; one daughter, Kristie (Jeff) Brindley of LaFayette, Ind.; one brother, Norval (Sondra) Baird of Henderson; three grandchildren, Shelby Everett, Cheyenne Baird, and Bryce Everett; one great grandchild, Bentley Baird; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Bro. Chuck Pollard officiating. Burial is at Magnolia Cemetery in LaRue County.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Any former football players are invited to be honorary pall bearers.

The Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.
