Cornelius G. Hickman, 85, Bardstown

Mr. Cornelius G. Hickman, 85, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.  He was a native of Bardstown, a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and the Nelson County Fair Board. He was a retired employee of the  U. S. Postal Service and a World War II Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Benver Bard Hickman; his siblings, Marion Hickman, Willie Hickman, Alvin Hickman, Emily Adams, Anna Spencer, and Dorothy Payne; a daughter, Julia Harris; and a grandson, Greg Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha Newell Hickman; two sons, Greg (Monica) Hickman of Olive Branch, Miss., and Jerry Baker, Horse Cave; two daughters, Bonita Hickman, Maplewood, N.J., and Cora (Enrique) Lugo, Bluffton, S.C.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at St. Monica Catholic Church. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 on Saturday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service Friday at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Nelson County.
