Mayor: Chief selection committee named; applications taken thru Aug. 1

Bardstown Mayor Dick Heaton released the names of the indviduals who will serve on the police chief selection committee.

Tuesday, July 11, 2017 — Bardstown Mayor Dick Heaton told the Bardstown City Council Tuesday that applications for the position of police chief are being accepted through August 1.

Police chief applicants will first be reviewed by a search committee. Once that committee has reviewed the applicants, it will then forward to Heaton the names of the top candidates from the committee’s search.

The names of the individuals who have agreed to serve on the police chief search committee include:

Risk Manager Greg Ashworth, committee facilitator
Councilman John Kelley
Councilman Roland Williams
HR Director Larry Green
City Attorney Tim Butler (non-voting member)
Randy Overstreet, retired KSP trooper and former commander of Post 4 in Elizabethtown
Sharon Shanks, executive director of the Nelson County Public Library
Ward “Bubba” Wood

MOBILE FOOD VENDOR UPDATE. The council approved an update to the mobile food vendor ordinance so it allows locating a mobile unit on property zoned Industrial, and adds penalties for those who violate the statute.

Violations of the statute are considered misdemeanors. If convicted, violators may face up to 30 days in jail, and a fine between $10 and $500. Each day of a violation constitutes a separate violation.

In other business, the council:

— approved the requested street closures for the Downtown Beach Bash on Friday, July 21, 2017.

— approved a municipal order closing the usual streets for the 2017 Buttermilk Festival.
— approved appointing Dustan McCoy for a three-year-term on the Bardstown Industrial Development Corp.

— approved a mobile food vendor request from Mississippi’s.
