Obituary: Volinda Lee ‘Linda’ Bruner, 72, Loretto

VOLINDA LEE “LINDA” BRUNER

Volinda Lee “Linda” Bruner, 72, of Loretto, died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was born on May 7, 1945, in Manton. In 1954, the family moved to Loretto where she lived until she married Tom Humphrey, then moved to Coon Hollow Farm in 1963.

Throughout her full life, she was a successful and inspiring entrepreneur. After raising her family in Lebanon, she became a hairdresser and started her own business, Valinda’s Hair Design, in Lebanon. In December 1986, she married Dean Bruner and moved to Southern Indiana where she continued as a hairdresser until moving back to Loretto in 1993.

Soon after her return, she started her own catering business, Valinda’s Catering, where she worked tirelessly until retiring in 2011. In 2000, she purchased a home next to her Mom and Dad in Loretto, and created The Hill House Bed & Breakfast. She and Dean were heavily involved in supporting many community activities including the annual “Ham Days Festival,” always one of their favorites. In 2014 she purchased her childhood home and resided there until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Burner in 2011; two sons, Thomas Richard (Ricky) Humphrey and Joseph David (Joe Dave) Humphrey; her parents, Arch and Marie Hutchins; and two brothers, Johnny Hutchins and Junie Hutchins.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Marie (Bobby) Williams of Loretto; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Snelling Humphrey of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three stepchildren Kim (Bill) Russell of Lebanon Junction, Steven (Reva) Bruner of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Ronnie (Tammy) Bruner of Madison, Ind.;

eight sisters, Karan (Mike) Luckett of Loretto, Denise Hayden of Nerinx, Kathy (Tony) Pivot of Boston, Vicki (Bill) Newton of St. Francis, Deanna (Tom) Thornton of Lebanon, Terri Farmer of Campbellsville, Carol Payton of Campbellsburg and Brenda (Dale) Daugherty of Raywick; one brother, Doug (Lisa) Hutchins of St. Francis; one sister-in-law, Brenda (Albert) Johnson of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Dylan T. (Natasha) Humphrey of Lebanon, Ramey E. Morris of Cincinnati, Zachery N. Morris of Chicago, and Dustin R. (Darrah Mattingly) Humphrey of Loretto; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Humphrey, Zach Morris, Dustin Humphrey, Jay Hutchins, Michael John Luckett, and Johnny Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Ramey Morris and her many nieces and nephews.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
