Obituary: Valinda Pettit, 93, Bardstown

VALINDA PETTIT

Valinda Pettit, 93, of Bardstown, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at Bardstown Health & Rehab. She was born April 3, 1924, in Bardstown to the late Russell and Mary Helen “Lainie” Hutchins Greenwell. She was a retired employee of the Nelson County Board of Education and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Edward Pettit; three sisters, Lorene Bartley, Helen Downs and an infant sister, Esther Greenwell; three brothers, Collins Greenwell, Marvin Greenwell and Donnie Greenwell; one grandson, Christopher Pettit; and her former husband and father of her children Bradford Pettit.

She is survived by four daughters, Joan Lee (Wayne) Metcalf of Bardstown, Judine Marie (Milburn) Howard of Hodgenville, Betty June (Hal Wheatley) Hamilton of New Haven and Theresa Jennifer (Jeff) Miles of Boston; five sons, Robert Bradford “Brad” Pettit of Greenbrier, Joseph Michael “Mickey” (Lillie) Pettit of Bardstown, Johnny Glen (Anita) Pettit of New Albany, Ind., James Mark “Monk” (Rachel) Pettit, and Justin Byron “Barney” (Sandy) Pettit both of Greenbrier; three sisters, Sister Delores Greenwell SCN of Nazareth, Lavonne Cecil of Howardstown and Ann Hall of New Haven; one brother, Albert C. “Happy” (Joyce) Greenwell of Greenbrier; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason Harris celebrant. Burial is in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, and 8:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday evening a the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
