Obituary: Johnny Darrell Phillips, 59, Bardstown
Johnny Darrell Phillips, 59, of Bardstown, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at St. Joseph Jessamine Hospital. He was born July 29, 1958, in Bardstown. He graduated from Kentucky State University and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma and the University of Louisville. He worked as the branch manager for Vocational Rehabilitation in Elizabethtown. He was a former substitute teacher for Bardstown City Schools. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the 123rd Airlift Wing and was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents, Irene Lydian of Bardstown and William Thomas “Bobo” Phillips Sr., both of Bardstown; four sisters, Diane Phillips Taylor of Louisville, Sarah Jean (Jeffrey) Phillips Green and Charmaine Phillips, both of Radcliff, and Patricia Payne of Bardstown; two brothers, William Thomas “Billy” (Linda) Phillips Jr. of Radcliff and Darnell Lydian of Lexington;
his longtime friend, Patricia Butler; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at St. Monica Catholic Church with burial in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with an evening prayer service Thursday.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, is in charge of arrangements.
